Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) Children and Young People

Posted on by

The Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership oversees a number of Northern Ireland wide sub-groups established to take forward integrated planning on a Northern Ireland wide basis, including a Sub-Group to support Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual or Transgender children and young people.

What does LGBT mean?

The Public Health Agency (NI) and Rainbow Project have defined LGBT as;
Lesbian:  A woman who is attracted to other women.
Gay Man: A man who is attracted to other men.
Bisexual: A person who is attracted to both men and women.
Transgender: Umbrella term for people with gender identities that do not correspond with normative understandings of male and female.
LGBT is an acronym for the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual or Transgender community.

Led by the Public Health Agency, nominated representatives from the statutory, voluntary, and community sectors who are concerned with improving the lives of LGBT children and young people across Northern Ireland have come together to make up the LGBT Sub Group.
