Supporting resilient families and better opportunities for children

Helping families develop resilience can improve the mental health and emotional well-being of children and young people.

This message was the focus of a recent Family Fun and Information event held on 23 May, which was organised by the South Belfast Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) Locality Planning Group, in partnership with Ballynafeigh Community Development Association at the Ormeau Park recently.

Families and young people from the south Belfast area attending were able to find out more about local services available to support young people and their families. Parents were also introduced to low cost ways of interacting and playing with their children, and had the opportunity to take part in the Ulster Wildlife Trust scavenger hunt and Doodlebugs Arts and Crafts.

Kelly Maxwell,South Belfast LPG chair said, “The event gave organisations and agencies an opportunity to promote themselves in the local community. Outcomes included better knowledge of local services available, parents learning the importance of playing together with their children and engagement with parents in the local area.”

The Locality Planning Group works to co-ordinate existing services for young people to make them more effective.   It also regularly reviews needs in the area to see that services meet the actual needs identified by young people and their families. Visit South Belfast LPG webpage ….
