Antrim Youth Fair – supporting and encouraging local young people

Over 500 pupils aged 15 – 16 from schools in the Antrim area recently learnt about making positive choices and the importance of good mental health at a Youth Fair in Parkhall Senior Integrated School, Antrim.

Hosted by the Antrim Children and Young People’s Locality Group and Antrim Learning Together, the fair offered the students from Parkhall Senior Integrated School, Antrim Grammar, Crumlin Integrated, Riverside Special School and St Benedict’s College.a chance to find out more about services and activities in the local area.

The main theme of the fair was “Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing”. Lifeline, Antrim Counselling Centre, NEELB Youth Service, PCSP, Womens Aid, New Life Counselling, Barnardos Bereavement and Young Carers were among the voluntary, community and statutory organisations which attended to provide local information and advice relevant to the young people…. Over 400 pupils aged 14-16 attended the 2nd Annual Youth Fair hosted by Parkhall Senior Integrated School last week.  The fair was organised by Antrim Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) Locality Group and Antrim Learning Together Partnership.
The main theme of the fair was “Positive Mental Health and Positive Choices” and in attendance were pupils from Parkhall Senior Integrated School, Antrim Grammar, Crumlin Integrated, Riverside Special School and St Benedict’s College…..

Over 100 local teachers in Antrim joined family support professionals to consider the emotional health and wellbeing of local children and young people at the Antrim Learning Together event this month. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness among teaching staff about the range of issues that can affect young people today and how teachers can offer support within the school environment. Councillor Mervyn Rea, Chair of the CYPSP Antrim Locality Planning Group stressed the ‘importance of organisations working together to support our children and young people who face a growing number of issues in today’s world.”

Antrim Learning Together Event – Emotional Health and Wellbeing: Understanding young people

The Antrim Locality Planning Group is hosting a Learning Together event in Parkhall Junior School Antrim on 14 February 2014. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness among teaching staff about the range of issues affecting young people today and how teachers can support this within the school environment.
It is anticipated that through teachers understanding young people’s issues and supporting and signposting to services available to them that pupil school attendance will increase. Women’s Aid, Barnardo’s and ZEST will be presenting on the day to teachers from three local Post Primary schools.
