downloadEDGES (Edge of care intervention service) will provide the early intervention service for young people, primarily between the ages of 13 – 17, who are on the edge of care, custody and/or education. The service will operate in the Enniskillen and Newtownabbey areas. Ronan McGinley, Service Manager at Start360, said, ‘We are really pleased to start working on the EDGES service in partnership with the Health and Social Care Board. Early intervention is vital in the lives of the young people we will be working with – our specialist team of staff will work with both the young people and their families to prevent them from entering the care system, entering custody, becoming homeless or leaving education. BAAF is working closely with the “Home on Time” Project being delivered across Northern Ireland and commissioned by the HSCB.  The concurrent planning project is funded under the Early Intervention Transformation Programme.
This workshop will provide an opportunity for prospective adopters to explore what becoming a concurrent carer involves enabling them to make an informed decision about whether this option is right for them and their family.
Who should attend?
This workshop will be of interest to prospective adopters, both pre and post approval including dual approved carers, considering a concurrent placement or who are interested to learn more about what this option involves.
This workshop is funded by the HSCB and is offered FREE to prospective adopters.

Robinson and McGuinness Announce £58 Million Investment | Atlantic Philanthropies

The total value of the three programmes is £58.45million, with over £33million provided by the Northern Ireland Executive and £24.65million by Atlantic Philanthropies. The programmes will be led by DHSSPS and the Department of Education.

Announcing the Programme at the Crescent Arts Centre, First Minister Peter Robinson said: “This new £58million package of services, under the Delivering Social Change initiative, will result in a real and positive change in the lives of people in genuine need. BAAF SPRING CONFERENCE  – Behind the Label: Parenting a child with complex health & development needs

This conference aims to address concerns, exploring from both a professional and personal perspective what it is like to parent children diagnosed with a range of complex health conditions which are a frequent feature of the Looked-after population. Adopters and foster carers will “tell it as it is”, sharing their parenting experience and offering useful advice, young people will describe what being labelled feels like for them, and professionals in health, education and psychology will share their expertise in diagnosis and the on-going management of the child’s condition.
