Rejoining a workplace pension scheme

Posted on by

If you leave your employer’s pension scheme, you might be able to re-join at a later date.

Your options if you leave your pension scheme

If you leave your pension scheme, you won’t lose the benefits you’ve built up. But if you are in a defined contribution scheme, the value of your investments can go down as well as up. See below for more details.

What you have built up continues to belong to you, and you have several options for what to do with it. Your scheme administrator or pension provider should tell you which options apply to you.

Are you still working for the same employer? Then you can ask your scheme administrator or pension provider whether it’s possible to re-join the scheme.

Has your scheme now closed to new members? If so, you might be offered the opportunity to join a new scheme. But be aware that this new scheme might not offer the same benefits as your original one.
