The Effects of the Digital Age on our Children and Young People

The rise in addiction to modern day technology and unhealthy food and its effects on children and families was the main focus of a recent conference in Craigavon Civic Centre held on 20 October 2016.

The Toxic Childhood Conference hosted by the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP), Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI) and Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council identified how the increased use of digital technology and poor food choices can affect moods and create challenging situations in homes.

What is ‘What Works Research’?

Significant cuts in funding across health, education and social services mean that it is more important than ever to make informed decisions about what we do with limited resources.  ‘What works research’ is about making good decisions based on the best available information and using high quality methods.

Young Carers at Stormont

On 22 September 2016 a group of 11 young carers from Action for Children and Barnardos Young Carers Services attended a consultation with the British Irish Council’s Social Inclusion Group at Stormont Castle, followed by a meeting with Department of Health staff working in family policy. David and Jasmine from Action for Children Young Carers Service share their experience of the day.

DSC Stakeholder Update – September 2016

The eight week public consultation on the draft Programme for Government Framework2016-21 ended on 22 July after which work commenced to consider all of the responses.Just over 800 valid responses were received and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed.Analysis of the responses is now complete and the emerging picture is overwhelmingly positive with strong support for the outcomes-based approach as well as for the proposed outcomes and indicators.A Consultation Report has been published on the Northern Ireland Executive website.
