800 Baby Step Challenge for Infant Mental Health Week 2017

The Fermanagh and Omagh Locality Planning Groups celebrated Infant Mental Health Week on 16 June at Enniskillen Castle with local families.

Families were welcomed into the historic grounds to play and have fun with physical and learning initiatives hosted by locality planning members including Bubble Toddler Yoga, Take Five, storytelling, puppets and arts and crafts.

The Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) Fermanagh and Omagh Locality Planning Groups have been supporting the ‘Give Your Child the Best Start in Life’ campaign in the Western Outcomes Area this month through a series of local area initiatives.

This event brought together 58 parents and families with practitioners to celebrate the best start in life that children are provided with and also to demonstrate the value of positive parenting and show support to parents by their peers and local community. Families were welcomed into the historic grounds of Enniskillen Castle by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to play and have fun with physical and learning initiatives that were hosted by the locality planning group members including Bubble Toddler Yoga, Take Five, storytelling, puppets and arts and crafts to name a few.

Children and Young People’s Strategy Update

The Children and Young People’s Strategy Team in the Department of Education is continuing to develop the new Executive’s Northern Ireland Children and Young People’s Strategy for 2017-2027.  In response to the consultation, the Department received 184 written responses, with a further 76 responses received via online questionnaire.

 

The Children and Young People’s Strategy Team, working closely with Departmental statisticians and staff from the Centre for Effective Services, is presently undertaking a thorough analysis of the responses to the public consultation. 

Following the analysis of the consultation responses, a Consultation Response Report will be prepared and published online.

Ballymoney Locality – Year 8 Healthy Lifestyles Engagement Pilot (June 2017)

Year 8 pupils in Our Lady of Lourdes School, Ballymoney were involved in a Healthy Lifestyles Engagement Pilot, which was undertaken in partnership with CYPSP, the Northern Obesity Partnership, Public Health Nursing, Northern Trust Dietetics and Causeway Coast and Glens Council.  As part of the pilot, Year 8 pupils had an opportunity to participate in a project with the Traditional Conservation Volunteers, which enabled them to plan and develop their own vegetable beds as well as growing vegetables.  Fourteen Year 8 pupils also had the opportunity to participate in a steering group to ensure user engagement & involvement was central to the project.

Improving children’s lives together in the South Eastern Area

 

The South Eastern Outcomes Group recently hosted an engagement event in Downpatrick to launch their new children and young people’s plan for 2017-2020. The event brought together over 60 representatives from the community, voluntary and statutory sector who are working with children and families across the South Eastern area.

Fionnuala McAndrew, Director for Social Care and Children from the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) welcomed delegates to the event and highlighted that the ‘outcomes groups have been real drivers of our work’.
