Southern Area FYI Newsletter Issue 86

Welcome to the 86th edition of our information bulletin, ‘FYI’ (For Your Information).

We hope you are enjoying the summer break and are able to support children, young people and parents with opportunities to participate in local activities. We have included a link to our CYPSP resource which is continually updated and shares a massive amount of activities and opportunities for children, young people and parents – See page 4.

Please let us know if you wish to attend any of our forthcoming Locality Planning Group meetings, where we share information and make time to learn more about local services. Contact details and dates of future meetings are at the end of this resource – See page 41.

Please also keep us posted as to what’s happening in your area and we will be happy to share this. We now send ‘FYI’ to over 800 contacts in the Southern Area and this number is continually increasing!

‘FYI’ is circulated monthly during the summer, so the next issue of our newsletter will be going out on Thursday 25th August 2022, with the deadline for submissions being Tuesday 23rd August 2022.  Please e-mail your flyers, posters, etc. directly to localityplanning@ci-ni.org.uk.

Arabic Speaking Parents Experiences of Education System in NI

The Parent Participation Service recognizes the importance of designing services with parents using their voice and the skills of practitioners together to improve services.  We understand the vital role that parents have in creating improved outcomes for children and families.  We are here to support parents to influence the activities of the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) and to support service providers to develop and improve co-production practice with parents.

We facilitated an informative direct participation event with Arabic speaking
parents from the N.I. Family Muslim Association exploring their experiences of the
education system in NI. See infographic  below of the keypoints that were captured that will be shared with Outcomes Groups for inclusion in future planning.

 

 

Help Kids Talk – July Message

We have a lovely July message of the month: “Less watching, more talking… put everything away and just sing, talk and play”

This month we want to encourage parents and families to minimise screen time and spend time playing and talking with their children.

Please also note that free training for parents or anyone working with children between 0 and 6 years old is available and can be booked below. (July dates available, keep an eye on the HKT Facebook page for Aug/Sept dates). ‘Basic Awareness’ around speech, language & communication is the first session and Level 1 is a next steps session looking at speech & language milestones, referring a child to Speech Therapy and tips for supporting children with difficulties in the home or their setting:
