A series of engagement sessions, facilitated by Parenting NI took place across Northern Ireland in October 2016 to celebration Parents Week in Northern Ireland. These sessions provided a safe and confidential space for parents to give honest feedback about their child’s needs, family needs and parental concerns.
The Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) North Belfast Locality Planning Group highlighted a priority for the group to increase direct engagement and participation of parents to shape future planning and provide feedback to assist with the delivery of projects and initiatives in the area. Parents Week in October 2016 provided the opportunity and space to begin engagement and supporting parents in North Belfast. Parents from the North Belfast recently took part in a number of focus groups in the local area to share their experiences of parenthood and put forward suggestions to improve outcomes for children, young people and families. Improving knowledge and access to services available to families and raising aspirations for young people in the area were a few suggestions offered.
