Eurochild: Contribution of Children’s Participation

The Annual Eurochild Conference: Building an Inclusive Europe took place from 13-15 November 2013 in Milan. The conference explored how children’s participation has contributed to policy and practice change in the areas of health, education, social inclusion and migration.

CYPSP presented a workshop on the participation of children with disabilities in the work of the CYPSP Regional Planning Groups on Disability through the support of Participation Network.

CYPSP and Mencap Hype Project

Luke Hutchinson, young school leaver from Northern Trust area facilitates workshop with CYPSP

Luke Hutchinson, School Leaver, Teresa Hazzard, Mencap Hype Project and Anne Hardy, CYPSP facilitated a workshop at the 11th EUSE (European Union of Supported Employment) Conference “Building an Inclusive Europe through Supported Employment” at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin on the 11 – 13 June 2013.

The workshop explored issues and highlighted the benefits of collaborative work with a range of stakeholders to overcome barriers in transition for students with learning disabilities from mainstream schools.

CYPSP representatives attended the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centres, 6th Biennial International Conference

CYPSP representatives at UNESCO event

The aim of the conference was to view trends challenges and options relating to citizens engagement and participation in the field of family support. A major theme of the conference related to the importance of participation, , not just in the development of effective family support practice but also in developing skills of citizenship and civic engagement for young people. This is particularly developed in the presentations by Professor Constance Flanagan and Professor Mark Brennan.
