DSC Stakeholder Update June 16
Building a United Community Engagement Forum Update
The second Together: Building a United Community (T: BUC) Engagement Forum took place on 2 June in the Girdwood Community Hub, Belfast.
The Forum brought together over 180 representatives from local government, voluntary and community organisations, cultural groups and central government to provide an update on T: BUC; identify good practices; share learning; and explore the topic of cultural expression.
This was the first public engagement attended by the two new Junior Ministers Alastair Ross and Megan Fearon who welcomed delegates to the Forum.

Breastfeeding Welcome – A Call to Action
The Western Outcomes Group with partners; Western HSC Trust, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and western locality planning groups were encouraged to show their support for breastfeeding mothers at a series of events last week in the western trust area. A list of recommendations have been put forward to organisations, businesses and the community to make their spaces breastfeeding friendly for female staff and service users. Read more.
Launch of the SCIE Review on Family Support Hubs and Family Support Book
On Wednesday 29th June around 65 people gathered at Girdwood Community Hub for the launch of the SCIE Review on Family Support Hubs and the Family Support Book. Chaired by Maurice Leeson presentations by Sean Holland, Shirley Ewart- Boyle, Helen Dunn and John Pinkerton with Pat Dolan were very well received. The Review concluded “the Hubs are an intrinsic part of the continuum of services for families, and it would be difficult to imagine the landscape of children’s services without the Family Support Hubs”. The morning was rounded off by Jacinta Linden from the Newry Hub using a football analogy about the Family Support Hubs and the Icelandic Team (the mouse that roared) which seemed to resonate with everyone present .The report and the book can be accessed from the following links:
