500 families attend Ards and North Down Fun Day!

Parents, children and young people from across the Ards and North Down Borough attended the fun day event hosted by the Ards and North Down Locality Planning Group in Londonderry Park on 1 September to celebrate the end of the summer! Speaking from the event one parent said ‘It was a great day with lots to do for kids and great for parents as it was free!’.

The Ards and North Down Family Fun Day was the first multi agency event hosted by CYPSP Ards and North Down Locality Planning Group since it came together last October.

Cathy Polly, Ards Community Network Manager and Chair of the CYPSP Ards and North Down Locality Planning Group spoke following the event and said ‘This event was a great opportunity for the support organisations from across Ards and North Down to come together and engage with families from different areas and backgrounds.  The day was a great success with over 30 organisations providing a range of information of local services and also providing fun activities for all ages. There was something for everyone and most importantly the children and their families really enjoyed tacking part in the different games and activities’.

Lads and Dads Wellbeing Day in Banbridge

Families from across the Banbridge area attended a Well-being Day celebrating positive mental health among boys, young men and dads.

Over 200 people attended the event and activities included; drumming taster sessions, climbing wall, archery, a bouncy castle, health checks and over 16 local services providing positive mental health and well being support and signposting to families.

Guest Speaker at the event was former Manchester United and Northern Ireland Footballer, Pat McGibbon, he said:

‘The importance of positive mental health for families in today’s fast moving society can’t be understated! With work commitments, school runs, runs to after school activities, it’s sometimes forgotten that self-care and spending time with our children is important. Understanding the 5 steps to well-being (being active, connecting with friends, giving, learning and taking notice) and most importantly being prepared to talk are vital to improved mental health. There are plenty of local organisations willing to listen, let’s all reduce the stigma surrounding poor mental health’.
