In the run-up to Christmas, we are learning more about the challenges faced by families and services through the Cost of Living Crisis. We continue to encourage those organisations and services who provide support for families to add their details to the CYPSP resource on page 3 and also to use this to help signpost families to much needed support.

The need for effective partnership working and communication has never been greater, so we extend an invite to all our readership, either working or volunteering with children, young people or families, to attend one of our Locality Planning Group meetings, where we exchange information, contacts and signposting opportunities, as well as providing mutual support with a cup of tea in an informal arena. Dates of these meetings can be found on page 49.

The next issue of ‘FYI’ will be circulated on Thursday 24th November 2022.

This week is Parenting Week which celebrates the roles of parents in their children’s lives.  As always, we have included a range of services and support for parents and check out the new animation for Parentline NI on page 28.

We are also continuing to publicise support available for families in relation to the cost of living crisis. If you provide such support, please add your details to the resource detailed on page 4.

We are always happy to share relevant information in ‘FYI’ and thanks for your continuing support!

The next issue of ‘FYI’ will be circulated on Thursday 10th November 2022.

At our recent Locality Planning Groups we have heard from a number of services and organisations about the challenges highlighted by the cost of living crisis.  We are supporting local services, by sharing support and resources across the area, and have included a lot of information and potential support for communities and services in this ‘FYI’.

We will continue to share, promote and highlight essential support for organisations and communities in ‘FYI’ and at Locality Planning Group meetings, so please keep all information coming in so we can promote all the great work in the Southern Area!

Once again, we have a range of opportunities, activities and programmes for children, young people and parents across the Southern Area. These are all led by recognised providers and most are free, so, if you think it may be relevant to you, then sign up! We also encourage all readers to share with colleagues, friends and families.

On Page 41 you will see how you can find out or share any information on upcoming activities and events by attending one (or more!) of our locality planning groups. To find out more about these groups and their purpose, contact Darren at localityplanning@ci-ni.org.uk.

See you in a fortnight!

Next up, Halloween’s “Monsters Inc Gets Active”…

(The aims of Portadown Gets Active (PGA) are to provide Primary School age children, who are eligible for free school meals, with a healthy breakfast and lunch outside of school term-time, as well as providing opportunities to learn something new, participate in physical activities and most importantly have fun with their peers. Referrals also come through the Craigavon & Banbridge Family Support Hub (FSH) , Community Intercultural Programme, Family Intervention and SHSCT. Children from Portadown, Craigavon, Lurgan and Banbridge attend the Programme. Oasis Youth, PGA’s lead community partner, works in partnership with key agencies and organisation to ensure PGA has run successfully since 2017.)
