Belfast Family Support Network Celebration Event

The Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership in collaboration with Belfast Family Support Hub providers hosted a celebration event for the Belfast Family Support Network on 4 October 2016 in Lower Ormeau Residents Action Group (LORAG) where the South Belfast One Family Support Hub is based.

Community and voluntary sector partners who have been supporting families in Belfast through referrals from the hubs were in attendance at the event to hear about the positive impacts that hub processes were having on local communities. Click here to read more.

 

Antrim Youth Fair – supporting and encouraging local young people

Over 400 pupils aged 15 - 16 from schools in the Antrim area recently learnt about the importance of good mental health and making positive choices at a Youth Fair in Parkhall Integrated College, Antrim. Hosted by the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) Antrim Locality Planning Group and Antrim Learning Together, the fair offered the students from Parkhall Integrated College, Antrim Grammar, Riverside Special School and St Benedict’s College a chance to find out more about services and activities in the local area. Belfast Autism Awareness Training

Over 100 Belfast locality planning group’s members and family support hub staff recently participated in Autism Awareness training hosted by Autism NI and NIACRO.

In recent years high levels of referrals have been reported through the hubs for families affected by autism requiring family support. Frontline staff attended the training including health visitors. social workers and other practitioners.

Armagh Disability Awareness Training

Barnardo’s Sixth Sense Children and Young People’s Project facilitated Disability and Diversity Awareness Training; entitled ‘We are more alike than different’ on 22 September 2016. Fourteen members of the Armagh Locality Planning Group attended the workshop.

It was reported through the evaluation that knowledge had greatly increased following the training with members noting a greater understanding of disability issues.

Trauma – Informed Community Care in film : A public screening of “ Paper Tigers ”

In support of World Mental Health Day, BPS NI Branch, DCP NI Branch and Queen’s University Belfast School of Psychology present a public screening of a Trauma-informed community care in film – “Paper Tigers” followed by Panel Presentations and Discussion.
This is a free public event and will be of interest to people working in health and education settings or people with an interest in issues of social justice and current affairs. It will be held on Thursday 13th October 2016 – 17:30 to 20:00 in the Lecture Theatre OG012, David Keir Building, Queen’s University Belfast, Stranmillis Road Entrance, Belfast BT9 5BN.
