‘Take 5’ Steps to Wellbeing – PHA Small Grants Scheme

The Public Health Agency (PHA) has identified funding for a small grants scheme to address the themes of Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing, Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm, and have commissioned CLEAR to facilitate this process.

The PHA are keen to fund programmes founded on evidence based practice with a particular focus on those using one or more of the ‘Take 5’ Steps to Wellbeing.  The PHA are inviting community and voluntary sector organisations, through the CLEAR Project, to apply for non-recurring small grants to address the outlined themes. 

Two types of awards are available under this scheme:

  1. Award one grants – Up to £1,000 that non-constituted and constituted non-profit taking Community / Voluntary Sector groups can apply for.
  2. Award two grants – Between £1,001 and to a maximum of £5,000 for constituted, non-profit taking Community / Voluntary sector groups.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 31 July 2017 at 3.00pm

Training for people affected by Dementia

The Alzheimer’s Society are hosting a series of FREE workshops for people who provide unpaid care and support for a family member, neighbour or friend living with dementia.

The course includes: understanding dementia, behaviour and how to improve communication; financial matters and benefits; stress management and coping strategies; health and well-being and accessing services.

The workshops will be held each Tuesday, with the first workshop taking place on Tuesday, 25 July 2017 and will continue until Tuesday,15 August 2017.  Each Workshop will commence at 11am – 1 pm and will be held in  Ballybot House, Newry.

Please note this training can also be delivered in the family setting.

Parenting Apart Programme – Parenting NI

Parenting NI are pleased to announce that they will be delivering a Parenting Apart Programme in Belfast this July.  This 6-week programme is aimed at parents who have separated, are separating, divorced or thinking of divorce.  The programme provides practical advice and guidance about what children need to know, and what parents can do to meet their children’s need.  Programme details:

Dates:                                  25 July to 29 August 2017

Times:                                 6pm – 8pm

Location:                            Belfast city centre

Cost:                                    £35 per person

Home-Start Newry & Mourne – Volunteers Wanted

Home-Start Newry & Mourne provides emotional and practical support to families with young children.  Currently they need volunteers to fill the following roles:

  • Home visiting support for families with children under 5
  • Home visiting support for antenatal mums
  • Supporting families at family groups
  • Administration
  • Fundraising

If you have a few hours to spare each week and would like to become part of the Home-Start team, they would love to hear from you.  Training courses begin in September 2017.

Incredible Years Programme – Maghera (September 2017)

This FREE Incredible Years programme is a 14 week parent education programme which will give parents strategies to build positive relationships, attachments, and to manage a range of behaviours.

Introductory sessions will be held on Thursday, 14 September 2017 in The Lurach Centre, Maghera between 10.30am – 11.30am and 7.00pm – 8.00pm.
