The Difference ‘FYI’ Newsletter is Making!

In January 2019, the CYPSP Southern Area Locality Development Team introduced a new innovative way of sharing information on the great work of services and organisations striving to improve outcomes for children, young people and families in the Southern Trust Area.

With the aim of strengthening contacts, participation, engagement and connections in the region, Southern Area LPG members, as well as the wider community, are invited to submit flyers, posters & announcements promoting relevant events, opportunities, programmes and initiatives. All of this information is then collated and shared via a one-stop shop style newsletter, FYI’ (For Your Information).

This fortnightly e-bulletin is currently circulated on alternate Thursday afternoons to over 800 contacts, advertising on behalf of a varied range of community, voluntary & statutory organisations. The newsletter is also widely promoted across various CYPSP social media channels and e-mail circulars.

With ‘FYI’ having moved into its 80th edition in April this year, the time was right for us to review this fortnightly newsletter and how it is making an impact on the ground.

The good news is that the Southern Area Locality Development Team are already making positive changes to our e-bulletin on the back of feedback received through the recent survey!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who responded to our survey and told us how you view ‘FYI’. Thanks, too, to all of our Southern Area LPG members and newsletter recipients for their continued support of this information sharing service.

We need your assistance! As page 3 states, we are currently putting the finishing touches to our Summer Activities Directory and will be sending it to you very soon. We need this to get into the hands of families, practitioners and all our contacts, as now is the time to sign up for local activities. Please share this valuable resource as widely and as soon as possible. Instructions on how to share it and ‘FYI’ via social media can be found on page 37.

In the next edition we will share the findings of our recent survey on this newsletter. Once again, thanks to all those who responded and told us how you view ‘FYI’. We are already making positive changes to our e-bulletin on the back of your feedback!

We are nearing summer time and working to produce a resource identifying summer schemes and activities in the Southern Area. All we need is for providers to send us their information and page 3 can guide you in this!

We also have the usual plethora of training, events, funding opportunities and resources for you to share with colleagues and families.

Lastly, we are starting to host our Locality Planning Groups in person over the next few months, so keep an eye on page 34 for the dates and let us know if you hope to join us.

Portadown Gets Active – Easter 2022

Portadown Gets Active went “Under The Sea” this Easter and a fortunate spell of great weather allowed plenty of outdoor activities for all involved!

Day 1 included a walk to Portadown People’s Park for some sports, with a great variety of fun and engaging games to start off the 3-day programme. (A huge shout out to Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council Sports Development for providing their coaching expertise.)

Day 2 included a trip to Exploris Aquarium; a first visit for the majority of the participants, but certainly not the last!

Day 3 was Family Day, which always provides a great way for parents to meet the team of young volunteers and chat with partners and staff. A fantastic lunch was served after a visit from CYPSP, Parentline NI, NIACRO / Family Support Hub and Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI). And not forgetting the various games, challenges, riddles and lots of prizes in the form of sweet treats! This finale day is one of the highlights because it is organised by the programme’s Aspire leaders and all the games and activities are created and delivered by them.

Such a programme would not be possible without local corporate sponsor, ALMAC, who have supported the delivery of the Portadown Gets Active programme over the past 4 years.

A huge thanks also goes to all of the partners involved in the PGA programme (Oasis, CiNI, CYPSP, ABC Council, Family Support Hub, SHSCT and the PHA).

Southern Area FYI Newsletter – Issue 82

Welcome to the 82nd edition of our information bulletin, ‘FYI’ (For Your Information).

As you may be aware, this week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health are one of our 3 top priorities in the Southern Trust Area and we are promoting many relevant key services and resources in this edition of ‘FYI’. We know there are many more services and resources so please keep sharing them with us and we will be happy to keep these included.

One of the ways to promote good emotional wellbeing is to see children and young people engaged in positive activities in their local area, so you will see on page 3 a great way for all organisations and services to share their summer activities and schemes in the Southern Trust Area with others with whom they work.

Based on recent feedback from our ‘FYI’ Members Survey, we are now organising the Southern Trust Area section by theme which will hopefully make navigating the information contained in ‘FYI’ even more straightforward!
