The run up to Christmas hasn’t eased the workload of key services and organisations supporting children, young people and families. A lot of colleagues we have spoken with are under more pressure to support families at this time of the year with practical and emotional support. Please have a look through this edition of ‘FYI’ and, if there is anything that may be of use to you, your colleagues or families with whom you work, then be sure to pass on this vital information.

Our next edition, and the last issue of 2024, will be on Thursday 5^th December, so please make sure any submissions for inclusion are with us by Tuesday 3^rd December.

With the half-term breaking coming up, the next issue of ‘FYI’ will be circulated in three weeks time, on Thursday 7^th November. (We’ll send out a reminder closer to the time!).

In the meantime, next Monday, 21^st October, sees the start of Parenting Week. We have included, in this edition, a wide range of support and opportunities for parents, and encourage as many people to avail of these resources as possible.

 Have a listen to the fantastic Podcast on Page 34 on Anxiety-Based School Avoidance by Parentline NI, where they share some of the stories and experiences from parents and shine a light on this pertinent issue.

Lots of opportunities in this edition for training and raising awareness of a number of issues.  We have also just heard of a new funding programme from The National Lottery for its ‘Strengthening Communities’ programme – See Page 19.

As you may have noticed, we have tweaked the design of ‘FYI’ to keep it user-friendly, including a new logo. Hope you like it!

We have included the reports for our Family Support Hubs, both regionally and in the Southern Area. These are on page 3 and give a very detailed breakdown of the nature of referrals to the hub over the past year.

Pages 27 to 29 introduce the Emotional Wellbeing Teams in Schools if you have not yet heard of them. They have great resources now to help support young people, parents/carers and teaching staff on the emotional wellbeing of young people.
