Children and Family Charter – Tell us what you think

We want to create a Children and Family Charter for Northern Ireland to help children, young people and families understand their rights, know what to expect from services and support staff to work in the best way for them.

The model for the Children and Family Charter is based on four key parts:

  • Standards
  • Support
  • Share
  • Speak up

By taking part in the survey, young people can help shape how the Charter is made and shared.

Questions? Email: info@statsandstories.co.uk

This consultation is open to anyone who may have a view — including children, young people, parents, carers, staff, professionals, and policymakers.
We particularly encourage you to share this with children, young people, and parents/carers.

Infant Mental Health Week-Southern Trust events for practitioners

Infant Mental Health Week takes place this year between the 9th-15th June 2025  The theme is  ‘Who is holding the baby’  IMHAW – Parent-Infant Foundation

Each year in the Southern Trust Area we use Infant Mental Health Week as opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic work going on in our area to support the early critical relationships in a baby’s life.  We are hosting a series of short videos each day over the week across our Social Media platforms, with representation from colleagues across a range of sectors.

Our iCAMHS service will also host a workshop for family support practitioners in the Southern Trust area on Wednesday 11th June relating to the theme of Infant Mental Health Week. Details in terms of time, application etc are included on the flyer (view flyer). The closing date for receipt of applications is next Wednesday 4th June.

The research team which includes six universities from across the UK would really appreciate your help in spreading the word. It explores how benefits vary across all 4 countries of the UK and how this impacts families with dependent children.

As a central part of the project, we’re holding a series of 14 online discussion workshops with parents and carers in receipt of benefits to hear about their experiences and what needs to change. The workshops are open to parents/carers across the UK who receive at least one UK benefit, such as Universal Credit, PIP, or Tax Credits, or who are receiving asylum support.

The discussions will take place in small, friendly online groups where participants can share their personal experiences and ideas for policy change. To thank them for their time, we are offering £50 in Love2Shop vouchers for each 2.5 hour workshop they attend, with the opportunity to take part in up to two workshops on different topics relating to social security (e.g. employment support, free school meals, welfare mitigations).

Uisce from the research team would be delighted to arrange a Zoom call if you’d like to discuss this further and can be reached on 07552 285828 or safety-nets-project@york.ac.uk
